Immediately After VenaBlock® (First 2 Hours)
Most patients walk out of the clinic within 30–45 minutes of completing the procedure. You will have a small adhesive bandage at the catheter insertion site, which can be removed after 24 hours. There are no wound closure strips, sutures, or bulky dressings required.
You may notice mild tenderness along the inner thigh or calf — this is normal and typically resolves within 24–48 hours. Take paracetamol or ibuprofen if needed.
Day 1–3: Getting Back to Normal
- Walk: Walking is encouraged from day one — it activates the calf muscle pump and promotes healthy venous return
- Work: Most patients return to desk or light-duty work on the day of treatment or the next day
- Driving: Permitted immediately, provided your right leg was not treated (or with physician approval for left-leg treatment)
- Avoid: Hot baths, swimming pools, saunas for 7 days
- Avoid: Prolonged standing or sitting without movement
Week 1–2: Mild Activity Resumption
Light exercise such as walking, cycling, and yoga can resume after 48 hours. You may notice a palpable firm cord along the treated vein — this is the treated, occluded vein and is entirely normal. It typically softens over 4–8 weeks.
Avoid:
- Running, high-impact exercise, heavy lifting until day 7
- Direct sun exposure to the treated leg (increases risk of skin pigmentation)
- Air travel longer than 4 hours in the first 2 weeks (discuss with your doctor)
Week 3–6: Full Activity
By this point, most patients have fully resumed all activities without restriction. Any residual tenderness or firmness along the vein should be resolving. Your 1-month ultrasound check will confirm ongoing vein closure.
Months 3–12: Follow-Up
Your physician will schedule follow-up ultrasound scans at 3 months and 12 months. These confirm durable vein closure and identify any small tributary veins that may benefit from supplementary sclerotherapy. Long-term success rates for VenaBlock® remain above 97% at 1 year with appropriate follow-up.
